I loved this so much! The artwork is great and the message is spot-on! I love the depth of character Toro showed when he asked Hermit why he would save him from the river, even after how mean he acted. The geode metaphor is beautiful, Toro thinking that his chips are something to be embarrassed by, but Hermit says that's what makes him shine. The boy who spotted Toro by the tree could even be seen as a metaphor for life. Toro was thrown down to rock-bottom (literally!) and that's where his life-changing event took place. He only kept growing from there. One thing to maybe think about next time is the repetition of certain phrases in the voiceover dialogue, the 'because of that's I noticed, but only after reading through your script again after watching. Overall, wonderful graphics, theme, and message, this is definitely impactful. Great job!

What a great story reel this has become! A big applause for the artwork. I really love this story and it's really well told: good characters, shots, pacing and even lighting.
Well done, team!!

beautiful art! It would be nice to see a few more nuggets of bonding between the bigger scenes (i.e., when Hermit saves Toro from the water, or when Toro using his body to block). Just a few short conversations, or dangerous situations where they are forced to work together similar to the Emperor's New Groove.

What I find compelling about this story is that not only does Toro improve as a character, by seeing the error of his judgey ways, but he also finds his heart is even more brilliant than he ever realized. So beautiful. Gorgeous art!

Wonderful! The story is awesome and yet so well resolved. The use of color is...WOW! Absolutely love it — it added so much life, emotion and quality to Toro´s journey. The design of the characters is so cute. Great job! Congratulations! :)

Love how you brought this to life with the colours and the music. Really enjoyed following your journey. Great story that resonates with many. If you ever do another version, it would be interesting if Hermit also chipped on his fall and also revealed some geo. It would show rocks at the bottom ain't that different from the rocks at the top? Either way, it's a really well developed story and character journey!

I love that thought what Toro should learned, what is real friendship that he deserved to do, and color illustrations are amazing!! Great work!

Great story reel! Successful on all levels. I like that you made this ancient parable your own. I'm the OG in this class I imagine, but it brings to mind one of my favorite Old School songs; 'Loves Me Like A Rock' by Paul Simon. https://youtu.be/9i3JXGtC_os Love this story reel....something in my eye gotta go!

The color illustrations and designs are gorgeous!! The usage of light and shadow is very good. I noticed in certain moments in the story reel you used the light to highlight specific moments and emotions each character was experiencing. Very clever! I couldn't get over Hermit's mossy beard! I love it!!! This whole story reel had me smiling!!!

The colors and draftsmanship are amazing, your sense of color theory is wonderful. I said this before but I think that it's interesting having a more antagonistic protagonist who learns something. Great work!

I love your story! I feel that it really showcases true character growth and development. Toro has a rough and rigged surface at first, but he has quite the wake up call when he fell to the bottom of the canyon (kind of like the hardest lessons to learn in life are the ones that shape you for the better). I think your artwork is FANTASTIC and beautiful. I also love the design of Hermit, he is so lovable! Absolutely amazing job :-)!!!!

This story is really great-- the illustrations are amazing, vivid, and carries so much emotion. The plot, the pacing, the flow of this story is wonderful-- I love the lesson Toro learned. One thing though- it's hard to sympathize with Toro. It's like he deserved being chucked out to the bottom. If there is something to hint why Toro loves the top, the surface, maybe that makes us connect stronger to Toro.

Hey hey! I’m sure you already know, but AMAZING artwork. I love seeing Hermit in color - it makes his goatee stand out! The geode part of Toro, too!
I do wish I could’ve heard Hermit and Toro interact with each other - I wonder what their dialogue would’ve been like.
I’m also curious if Toro had any reconciliation with the rocks at the top of the canyon, or did he just dip out back to be with Hermit?
Overall, great job!

I didnt really feel any sort of connection to toro. There was little to no room to sympathize with him in my opinion. Otherwise great story.

Toro
Once upon a time, there was self-important and obnoxious igneous rock called Toro who lived at the top of the Grand Canyon. His favorite activity was soaking up the sun on a hot summer’s day. His favorite view of the Canyon was when the stars were out on a clear night.
Every day, Toro would make fun of the rocks at the bottom of the canyon for being inferior because he had the best view in the canyon. Toro would see other rocks with strong friendships from the top of the canyon. They would play tag, dance, and sing songs. Toro wanted to have friends who thought he was cool so he touted himself as superior and amazing. In reality, Toro's displays of arrogance were to cover up his sensitivity about his lack of friends.
Until one day, a tour group spotted a cool-looking tree while Toro made fun of the rocks at the bottom. A family on the tour group wanted to take a picture at the tree, which was Toro’s unique pedestal, and Toro wanted to be a part of it so he climbed to the top of the tree. After the photo, Toro accidentally slipped off the tree and a child spotted him. The child tossed him up and down for a second, making Toro believe he was amazing enough to be valued by a human, until the child threw him off the cliff for fun. In the fall to rock bottom, Toro bounced off the cliff walls and tumbled through weeds. At the bottom, Toro noticed he was chipped, much to his displeasure.
Because of that, Toro met a rock at the bottom of the canyon called Hermit. He demanded Hermit to help him get back up to the top of the canyon. Hermit only agreed after Toro promised to stop degrading the rocks at the bottom.
Because of that, Hermit led Toro to a river, which they need to cross to get back up. Hermit told him to take a long way around but, in his impatience, Toro tried to go his own route. Consequently, Toro slipped off a rock and was swept downstream.
Because of that, Toro gets caught in between some rocks underwater. He cried for help, and in some self-reflection, he apologized to Hermit for not listening. To Toro’s surprise, Hermit saved him from the river. Toro asked why Hermit would do that after the way Toro treated him and Hermit replied "better a rock with a flaw than a diamond without" before they continued their journey.
Until finally, Hermit led Toro across a final treacherous ravine to reach the top. Hermit slipped but Toro grabbed onto him as they both fell. Toro used his body to block Hermit from the impact of the drop, causing him to chip enough for his geode to shine. Toro was surprised by his heroic actions but Hermit never doubted his good character and thanked him. At first, Toro was embarrassed by his newfound cracks and flaws but Hermit said that Toro shined as beautifully as his geode. They eventually finished their journey and made it to the top, but Toro realized he didn’t want to lose his friend.
And ever since then, Toro went to live with Hermit at the bottom of the canyon. Toro learned that his narcissism prevented him from getting the friendship he desired and that he needed to develop compassion for the rocks he viewed as inferior at the bottom of the canyon.
