Q

How much time does this program require?

A

Our program is asynchronous and designed to fit any schedule. The full program requires around 40 hours to complete. Some participants work full-time for 2 weeks, and others spread it out over 10 or 12 weeks, whatever works for you.

We have monthly livestreams on the second Monday of the month from 5-6pm PT. All livestreams are recorded and posted to the site for on-demand viewing. You will also get access to our extensive archive library featuring livestream recordings of past sessions with industry experts.

Q

What if I cannot attend the livestreams in real time?

A

All livestreams are recorded and posted to the site directly afterwards for on-demand viewing. You will also get access to our extensive archive library featuring livestream recordings of past sessions with industry experts.

Q

What software and materials are needed for the program?

A

Drawing: Many participants only use pencil and paper. If you prefer to draw digitally, we'll share a list of resource tools (free and paid options) that you can use, as well as tips on drawing during the program.

Editing: To create your storyreel, you'll need to use a simple video editor to pair your drawings with audio. We'll share a list of software (free and paid options) and tutorials.

Optional: Participants may want to have access to YouTube. Course content videos within the platform can also be opened and viewed on YouTube.

Q

I am not an artist. Can I still do this program?

A

Our program is all about story and guides you step-by-step in how to develop a great story. You do not need artistic experience. You will only need to make clear and simple line drawings, one example. We’ll also provide suggested tools and tips. Participants sometimes do go above and beyond with their art, but it will be the story that makes your work stand out.

Q

Is this program for adults or youth?

A

Both! The creative peer community is grouped separately into two cohorts: youth ages 13-18 and adults.

Q

Who owns the work created in the program?

A

Participants own 100% of what they create.

Q

What type of guidance will participants receive?

A

  • Our curriculum guides participants in developing their story, where they work towards a deliverable for each step and build upon their story towards a final storyreel.

  • The program includes pre-recorded videos and livestreams with Pixar and other industry experts sharing storytelling guidance, tips and advice. Livestream guests will also share their personal stories and paths into the industry, and answer participants’ questions from the live chat.

  • The creative peer community provides ongoing feedback along the way, offering invaluable guidance on your story at every step.

  • The XP team is always available.

Q

How is peer feedback structured?

A

  • Our program is about the iterative process powered by peer feedback. We provide guidance, modeling, and tools for giving and receiving feedback.

  • At each step, and after uploading your own work, participants give and receive peer feedback on submissions in the gallery.

  • You can expect to get 8 rounds of peer feedback on your work as it develops.

  • Moderators review feedback before it gets posted.

Q

How does the exhibition work?

A

  • At the end of the program, participants can choose to submit their final storyreels to the online Exhibition.

  • There, participants will vote to determine peer recognition awards, with the chance to receive a reaction video from an industry expert.

  • Each participant or team will have their own dedicated page showcasing their final storyreel.

Q

Do you offer special pricing for schools, youth organizations and non-profits?

A

  • Yes! Please contact us via our: Schools and Groups form.

  • Our goal is to make this program accessible to all youth. We believe that equal access to education is the most fundamental of rights. Our scholarship programs provide powerful educational experiences to underserved youth.

Q

Does Story Xperiential require facilitation?

A

Story Xperiential is designed to work effectively in both facilitated and unfacilitated settings. Younger participants could benefit from facilitator support, but it is not a requirement.

Q

What if participants want to use a language other than English for their deliverables?

A

Story Xperential is written and supported exclusively in English. If participants want to utilize a language other than English, they can do so by using a translation tool of their choice and add subtitles to each deliverable.

Course content videos within the platform can also be opened and viewed on YouTube, where you can enable translation tools in one of the available languages.

Q

What is the return policy?

A

Registration includes 1-year access to the program, including monthly livestreams. If you are unable to participate in Story Xperiential, we offer a 14-day money back guarantee (from date of purchase).
